Enjoyed a good and very interesting day here. The older planes that have been restored and on show are a credit to the many folks who have spent time on these planes. Enjoyed seeing the rare starship and the f111

Now I'm not a fly-boy, but apparently I spent 3 hours here (according to the wife :o/ ). This place is a tribute to the hard working volunteers that oversee the operation presentation of this treasure trove of local avionic history. The depth of knowledge and enthusiasm of the volunteer staff is impressive and noteworthy. Our boys loved the cut-away turbine engines, and being able to go into the aircraft. The dioramas were studied in great detail by our youngest. We do have one regret. We missed the open cockpit day by a month. Next visit to Australia, we'll see if we can time it better! So many aircraft in such a small space. If you have the least bit of a mechanical, historical or aviation interest this is a must see place.

The Caloundra Air Museum claims to be the largest private aircraft museum in Australia...not sure about this but it is an amazing collection supported by nearly 100 volunteers. These dedicated men and women all have incredible knowledge of both military and civilian aircraft history. The newly acquired F-111 now fills almost half the entrance hangar. The larger hangar next door is chocka-block with a DC-3, RAAF Sabre, Canberra bomber, Huey, Vampire, Meteor, Winjeel, Ventura etc etc. Outside are many more aircraft including an almost restored Caribou and Neptune. Its extensive library contains bookshelves of books, documents, flight manuals enough to satisfy the most ardent aeronautical researcher. Well done you men and thanks for preserving and restoring so much of our history.
